This White Chocolate Peppermint Popcorn is such a delicious festive twist on this crunchy snack. It has the perfect blend of sweet white chocolate, crunchy candy canes, and salty popcorn for a delicious sweet and salty treat that is a must make for the holiday season!
One of my favorite seasonal flavors during the holidays is peppermint. I love peppermint bark, peppermint sugar cookies, and lots of other peppermint inspired goodies – including this peppermint popcorn.
This popcorn is a perfect one to add to the mix, its so good for a holiday movie night, or make a double batch and package up to share with friends.
Why make this recipe
- Festive Peppermint Flavor – This popcorn combines the refreshing, sweet flavors of peppermint with the classic crunch of popcorn! Its a winning combination.
- Quick and Easy – With just a few ingredients, this popcorn only needs 5 ingredients, and just a few minutes to make (especially if you use already popped popcorn, or microwave popcorn).
Ingredients Needed
- Popcorn – Grab a bag of already popped popcorn like Skinny Pop that is lightly salted, or pop your favorite in the microwave (I recommend something lightly salted, not extra buttery), or pop your own popcorn in the microwave, air popper, or on the stove top. If you’re popping your own popcorn add a couple dashes of salt.
- White Chocolate – you can use white baking chips, or white melting wafers
- Coconut Oil – Helps smooth out the chocolate and makes it easier to coat the popcorn. If you have a coconut allergy, or don’t like it you can leave it out.
- Peppermint Candies – Crush up candy canes, or other peppermint candies.
- Salt – A pinch to balance the sweetness.
How to make Peppermint Popcorn
Step 1: Pop your Popcorn. Using your preferred method, pop the popcorn kernels so you end up with about 10 cups of popped popcorn.
Step 2: Add the white chocolate. Add the white chocolate chips and coconut oil to a small microwave safe bowl. Microwave in 30 second increments until you can stir the white chocolate smooth. Pour the melted white chocolate over the popcorn and half the peppermint pieces, and stir to coat evenly in the white chocolate.
Step 3: Add more peppermint. Spread the popcorn out on a lined baking tray, and sprinkle the top with the remaining candy cane pieces. Let the popcorn cool until hardened and set, and enjoy.
Tips and Tricks
- Add Chocolate – Melt about 1/2 cup of chocolate wafers, or chocolate chips in 20 second increments in the microwave, and drizzle over the top of the popcorn after spreading it out on the pan to give your popcorn a peppermint bark appearance and flavor.
- Extra Large Bowl – Use a very large bowl so you can fit all the popcorn, with extra room for stirring. If you don’t have a really large bowl, separate the mixture into two smaller bowls to stir and coat.
- Extra Mix ins – For extra flavor, or a change in texture, add mini marshmallows, pretzels, or m&ms to the popcorn mixture.
Storage Instructions
Store the peppermint popcorn in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. Do not store the popcorn in the fridge, or freezer or it will become too soft and soggy.
This minty popcorn treat is so perfect for the Christmas season. It has a sweet flavor, and satisfying crunch that is practically irresistible, and so perfect for a late night treat, or homemade gift!
