Ingredients Needed
This is a quick overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this Melted Snowman Cookie Dough Balls Recipe. Specific measurements and full recipe instructions are in the printable recipe card below.
- All Purpose Flour – bake the flour in the oven to remove any risk of bacteria
- Unsalted Butter – softened to mix easily with the ingredients, and it adds a nice buttery flavor and helps everything stay together
- Brown Sugar and Granulated Sugar – to sweeten the cookie dough and give it the taste of actual cookie dough
- Vanilla Extract – for flavor
- Milk – to hold the cookie dough together without the eggs, you could substitute half and half or heavy cream if desired
- Salt – to balance out the sweetness
- Mini Chocolate Chips – to fill the cookie dough with the perfect amount of chocolate
- Ghiradelli White Melting Wafers – The Ghiradelli White Chocolate Melting Wafers melt really easily, and smoothly. You can use white baking chips, but make sure to pick a high quality brand.
- Mini Oreos – Half a mini oreo to make the snowman’s top hats. If you just want the cookie dough balls, you can skip the decorations
- Dark Chocolate Rolos – To make the top of the snowman’s hat. The dark chocolate matches the color of the Oreos better, but regular Rolos work too.
- Holly Sprinkle Mix – To decorate the hats, this is totally optional.
- Snowman Sprinkle Mix – To give the snowman his cute face, you’ll use black sugar pearls for the eyes and mouth, and a carrot sprinkle for the noses.

How to make Snowman Cookie Dough Balls?

Step 1: Heat Treat the Flour. Spread the flour onto a large rimmed cookie sheet and bake it for about 5 minutes, until it reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Set it aside too cool slightly. Whisk, or sift the flour to remove any lumps.

Step 2: Mix the Wet Ingredients. Cream the butter and sugars in a large bowl and stir them together for a couple minutes until light and fluffy. Add in the vanilla and milk and stir until combined.

Step 3: Add in the dry ingredients. Then add in the flour, and salt and stir it together until you have a nice cookie dough texture. Add a little more flour if it’s too wet, or a little more milk if it’s too crumbly. Fold in the mini chocolate chips.

Step 4: Roll the balls. Scoop the dough into 1-inch balls, and roll them into smooth balls. Place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and place the pan in the fridge to chill for about 30 minutes.

Step 5: Make the Hats. Add a couple drops of melted white chocolate on top of half an Oreo using a toothpick, skewer, or small spoon. Place an upside down Rolo candy on top of the melted chocolate. Decorate the hats with sprinkles using this holly sprinkle mix, and a little dab of white chocolate, if desired.

Step 6: Dip into White Chocolate. Melt the White Chocolate in a microwave in 20 second increments, or using a double boiler on the stove. Drop one cookie dough ball at a time into the melted white chocolate, then lift the ball our of the white chocolate with the fork and tap it on to the side of the bowl. Carefully place the cookie dough ball back onto the parchment paper lined baking sheet.

Step 7: Decorate the snowman. Working quickly decorate the snowman’s face using two black sugar pearl sprinkles for the eyes, a carrot sprinkle for the nose, and more black sprinkles for the mouth. Top with their hats, holding them in place for a few seconds to let them adhere to the chocolate as it hardens. Let the snowman sit until the chocolate is set. You can place the pan back in the fridge if needed.
Tips and Tricks
- Heat treat the flour. Microwave your flour in 30 second increments, stirring after each, until hot throughout (it only takes about 1 minute in my experience), or bake extra and store it until needed at 350 F on a rimmed cookie sheet for about 5 minutes, until the flour reaches an internal temperature of 160 F. Let the flour cool for about 10 minutes before using in the cookie dough
- Use a cookie scoop to portion out the cookie dough into even sizes. Then roll them into smooth balls with your hands.
- Use mini chocolate chips to spread them more evenly throughout the cookie dough balls.
- Work Quickly – Be sure to work quickly when decorating the snowmen’s faces. We want to get the sprinkles in place, and to adhere to the melted white chocolate quickly, as the chocolate hardens.
- Adhering the Pieces – If you can’t get the hats, or any of the face pieces on to the snowman faces before the cookie dough balls harden, you can dab a little melted white chocolate onto the ball and then place the piece on.
- Different Sprinkles – If you can’t find the black sugar pearls and carrot sprinkles for the snowmen’s faces, you can instead use black icing gel to make the eyes and smile. You can use an orange sprinkle, or orange Tic Tac for the nose.

Storage Instructions
These cute Snowmen Cookie Dough Balls should be stored in the fridge in a single layer in an airtight container for up to 1 week. This week help keep the decorations from sliding off, or being pushed off the balls.
