Ingredients Needed
This is a quick overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cake Ball Recipe. Specific measurements and full recipe instructions are in the printable recipe card below.
- Little Debbie Christmas Tree Cakes – you can find these in most grocery stores during the fall and winter seasons before Christmas. You could substitute Little Debbie Zebra Cakes, or Birthday Cakes if you can’t find the Christmas Tree Cakes.
- Vanilla Melting Wafers or White Baking Chips – These get melted to dip the cake balls into, you could also use Almond Bark, or even chopped white chocolate.
- Red Candy Melts – These drizzled on top add the same design as you’d seen on the classic cakes.
- Green Sanding Sugar or Green Sprinkles – Adds a nice green color, and sprinkle topping like the Christmas Tree Cakes have.
How to make Christmas Tree Cake Balls
Step 1: Make the “Dough”. Beat the cream cheese until it is nice, soft, and smooth in the bowl. Add in the cakes and mix until they are well combined.
Step 2: Roll into Balls. Scoop the dough into about 2 teaspoon portions onto a piece of parchment paper. Then roll them into balls, about 1 inch in size. Cover and chill them on a pan in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours.
Step 3: Dip into Melted Chocolate. Melt the Vanilla Candy Melts (I like Ghiradelli) in the microwave according to package directions. Drop a cake ball into the melted coating and lift it out with a fork. Gently tap the fork on the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate, then gently slide the truffle back onto the baking sheet.
Step 4: Decorate. Top each with a few green sprinkles, while the chocolate is still not set. Melt the red candy melts and put them into a ziplock bag. Snip the corner and drizzle the red over the top of each cake ball.
Tips and Tricks:
- Double Dipping: For an extra thick coating, dip the balls a second time after the first layer sets and before decorating the tops.
- Reheat the Chocolate: If the melted chocolate thickens as you work, reheat it for a few seconds until it is warm and smooth again.

Storage Instructions
