Ingredients Needed
This is a quick overview of the ingredients you’ll need for this White Trash Recipe. Specific measurements and full recipe instructions are in the printable recipe card below.
- White Chocolate Chips – Often called White Baking Chips, these aren’t real white chocolate, but you can also substitute Almond Bark, or actual white chocolate bars chopped up.
- Chex Cereal – I like Rice Chex. This adds the perfect light, and crunchy base
- Mini Pretzels – I like the “Itty Bitty Pretzels” but any mini pretzels will work.
- Peanuts – Roasted and lightly salted peanuts add a nice extra flavor. You can skip these if you need a nut free treat.
- M&Ms – Adds a nice extra chocolatey sweetness.
- Sprinkles – Add a nice festive touch for the holidays
How to make Recipe for White Trash?
Step 1: Combine the Ingredients in a Large Bowl. Add the Chex Cereal, Pretzels, Peanuts, and M&Ms to a large bowl. Only add about 3/4 of the M&Ms so you can add more later.
Step 2: Melt the White Chocolate. Add the chips to a large microwave safe bowl and microwave in 20-30 second increments, stirring after each until melted and smooth.
Step 3: Mix together. Pour the white chocolate over the cereal mixture, and carefully stir with a rubber spatula until it is evenly coated in the mixture. Spread the mixture onto a lined pan with parchment paper and sprinkle with extra M&MS and sprinkles.
Tips and Tricks:
- Don’t Overheat the Chocolate: The White chocolate can seize and get hard if overheated. Go slow, and microwave in short increments, stirring often.
- Mix it Up: This mix is super customizable, try a different cereal, like Cheerios, or Crispix, or Golden Grahams, or add other candies like Reese’s Pieces, or chopped up candy bars. Try adding Bugles, or mini Marshmallows, etc.
- Work Quickly: Once the chocolate is melted, pour it over the mix, and stir it quickly before it starts to harden back up.
Storage Instructions
Store the white chocolate Chex mix in an airtight container for up to 1 week. This is great for gifting, by packaging up in cellophane treat bags, or cute boxes to share with friends.
